Staff Support Training for Resources - (Half Day)

Cost: £295

Aim: Staff development training for utilising resources to best effect. The half day training ensures that all staff understand the structure and format of the programmes, and that delivery is consistent across the team. The training will also focus on how best to utilise the resources within all levels of interventions with young people and adults

Who will this benefit?: All social care staff working with young people where offending and anti-social behaviour is an issue, e.g. Locality Team Staff, Youth Justice Staff, Social Workers, Youth Workers, Foster Carers, Education Professionals, Community Police, and Probation Officers.

Outcomes:The course is designed to update staffs’ knowledge base around contemporary offending, providing realistic tools designed to maximise effectiveness of interventions within organisations. The course not only develops staffs’ practical skill base, but also increases participants' understanding of the criminal reality of offending lifestyles, and overcoming challenges to change.

The course will specifically cover in detail and discuss effective challenges for each of the following areas:

  • Modern Forensics
  • Critical arguments every worker should know (e.g. Joint Enterprise, Proceeds of Crime Act 2002)
  • The reality of crime for profit (e.g. reality of drug dealing and other offending aimed at making money)
  • Violence and weapons
  • Gang interventions
  • Victim Awareness - Effect upon both victims and offenders' families
  • Criminal reality of offending

Chris Lennie (BA Social Policy, DipSW, MA Restorative Justice) has specialised in work with young and adult offenders, prisoners, ex offenders and victims for the last 12 years. He is currently a lead instructor for the Ministry of Justice Attendance Centre programme (Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire). Chris has developed offender intervention programmes in prisons (HMP Hull), and conducted university research with life sentence prisoners (HMP Humber). Since 2009, Chris has written intervention programmes currently utilised by 89 youth offending services, as well as numerous other organisations, e.g. Probation Service, YOI's, Secure Units and Pupil Referral Units. Chris has extensive experience of delivering training, including presenting research findings at international conferences and university lecturing. Chris is a very engaging and knowledgeable trainer. His book: Working with Offenders; A Practical Tool Kit for ALL Professionals (Making it Easier Guides), is due for release later this year.
