Racism Pack
Reality Picture

The RACISM 'Challenging Racist Attitudes Towards Asylum Seekers & Refugees' resource was developed to address the negative and stereotypical attitude many young people (including young prisoners) had towards asylum seekers and refugees.

The exercises are designed to educate young people and tackle racist attitudes and opinions from a different perspective, putting young people in situations often experienced by those seeking asylum and asking how they would respond?

Comprised of the following:

  • 21 page folder consisting of four session / lesson plans.
  • Session Delivery Disc - for groupwork delivery.
  • Alternative Education Support download, comprising research and presentation style exercises to complement ASDAN / Cope / OCN education programmes.

Addressing the following areas:

  • Factors which lead to many seeking asylum within the UK.
  • Sources and validity of common rumours relating to asylum seekers and refugees.
  • The 'actual' facts relating to the reality faced by asylum seekers upon entering the UK e.g. benefit entitlements etc.
  • The role of conditioning within the young people's beliefs relating to different cultures.
  • What we mean by national identity.
  • Dependency between cultures.
